14 killed in Assam due to thunderstorm and lightning
Four people died due to a severe storm in Kherni village of Dibrugarh on Friday evening.
At least 14 people died due to lightning and strong thunderstorms coupled with heavy rains at various places in Assam, officials said. Thunderstorms and rain have been lashing many parts of Assam since Thursday.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), Dibrugarh District Project Officer, Deepjyoti Hatikakoti said, “At least four people were killed in a thunderstorm followed by a strong thunderstorm on Friday evening at Tingkong revenue village in Dibrugarh district and trees in the area. Crumbled up.”
On Thursday, three more people died in a thunderstorm in Barpeta district and a 15-year-old boy died due to lightning in Goalpara district.

Three people died in Tinsukia after a strong thunderstorm on Friday evening.
Tinsukia Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipu Kumar Deka said, “Three persons allegedly died in Margherita revenue circle of Tinsukia district last evening.”

“Many houses and properties were damaged during the storm. People are taking shelter in schools and government offices,” Deka said.
The ASDMA said in a bulletin that the storm has uprooted several trees and dozens of power poles over the past few days and damaged several houses at various places.
At least 7,378 houses and other establishments have been damaged in the state during the last two days.
