5 killed and 25 injured in Russian missile attack on city in central Ukraine

The Interfax-Ukraine news agency quoted Raikovich as saying that 12 soldiers were among the wounded.

At least five people were killed and 25 wounded on Thursday in Ukraine’s central city of Kropivnitsky, as Russian forces launched a missile attack on a flight school.

Kirovohrad region governor Andrey Raikovich said two missiles struck the hangar at the National Aviation University Flight Academy at around 12.20 pm (0920 GMT).

“There are victims, dead and wounded. Twenty-five have already been taken to medical institutions – they were wounded. Five were killed, one of them from the military,” Raikovic told a news briefing. “There has been a loss of material – two civilian aircraft and one AN-26 aircraft,” he said.

Russia, which invaded its eastern European neighbor on February 24, did not immediately comment on the report.

The Russian military also launched a missile attack on the Kyiv region for the first time in weeks and devastated the northern Chernihiv region, which Ukraine said in retaliation for the Kremlin’s standing.

Regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said on Telegram that the Vyshgorod district, on the outskirts of Kyiv, was targeted early in the morning and an “infrastructure object”.

There was no immediate word on any casualties. Vyshgorod is 20km north of central Kyiv.
