Villages on the banks of the Brahmaputra, one of the world’s largest rivers, have been flooded as the water level rises after heavy rains

The state is struggling to maintain the supply of essential commodities and restore communication channels in the flood-affected areas.

The Met Office in Guwahati has issued a widespread rain warning for the entire region in the next four days.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Assam of all possible help from the central government. In a tweet, he said that he has already spoken to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The government has decided to partner with regional airline “Flybig” to operate airplanes from Barak Valley. The ticket price has been fixed at Rs 3,000, the government will bear the additional charges, sources said.

For the last two days, the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have been receiving torrential rains.

Over 48,000 people have been shifted to 248 relief camps.

Dima Hasao district in South Assam remained cut off for the fifth day today. A landslide caused by rain has cut off road and rail connectivity to Dima Hasao.



Hojai and Cachar are the most affected districts. More than 1 lakh people have been affected in each district. The army has rescued over 2,000 people stranded in Hojai district as part of their rescue efforts.

It has also snapped road and rail connectivity to the Barak Valley as well as important parts of Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur since Sunday.

The Assam government will provide financial assistance of ₹4 lakh to the families of each of those who died.
