A fire broke out in the child care unit of a government hospital in Goalpara district of Assam. Fourteen children present at the time of the incident were rescued and no casualties were reported.
On Friday, 14 children survived a major fire in the child care unit of a government hospital in Goalpara district of Assam.
The fire broke out at Goalpara Civil Hospital on Friday morning.
Hospital officials said 14 children, several staff members and relatives of the patient were present when the fire broke out in the hospital’s child care unit.
Goalpara district deputy commissioner Meenakshi Das Nath told India Today TV that fire tenders rushed to the hospital and brought the situation under control.
Meenakshi Das Nath said, “All the 14 children and mothers have been rescued and shifted to a nearby private hospital.”
Meenakshi Das Nath said, “We have also shifted the critically ill patients in the ICU to a private hospital. The situation is now under control and no casualties have been reported in the incident.”
Meenakshi Das Nath said, “We suspect that the fire started due to a short circuit. We have ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. We have also ordered a power audit of the hospital.”
