Amit Shah lied, said protesters held a big rally over the deaths in Nagaland

Seven days earlier, in the Mon district of Nagaland, six civilians were killed in an unsuccessful Army operation. Seven more were killed in retaliatory clashes between security personnel and locals, in which one soldier was killed.

In a massive protest today in Mon, furious residents have demanded an apology from Home Minister Amit Shah for his “false” and “fabricated” statements on the incident in Parliament this week.

The protesters burnt an effigy of the home minister to mark the extent of their anger – against Mr Shah and his alleged misrepresentation, and against the central government for continuing the AFSPA, or Special Forces Act, which they fear. Will happen. Called to save the culprits.

The protesters – which included residents of Oting village, 12 of the 14 killed – were led by an apex body of tribes called the Konyak Sangha, and have demanded an immediate apology from Amit Shah and retraction of his statement. Parliament Records.

He said, “We are seeking justice… We don’t need sympathy. It is unfortunate to break the truth. Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament is confusing the world with misinformation. He should be withdrawn immediately. We demand.” His apology,” said Honang Konyak, the union’s vice president.

“We will not rest till the 14 Konyak youths who were killed get justice,” he said.

He has said that these demands should be added to the five demands already placed before the Centre.

Earlier demands included an independent committee to investigate the failed army ambush and that all those involved in the incident be charged and punished according to the law of the land.

The bigger demand, however, is to repeal the AFSPA, or the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act – a demand also made by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his Meghalaya counterpart, Konrad Sangma.

In an absurd statement in both the Houses of Parliament on Monday, Amit Shah said the Army unit opened fire only because the truck carrying villagers was ordered to stop.

He said the army unit suspected the presence of militants in the vehicle, they opened fire.

The Army had already said that a member of the unit thought he had seen a hunting rifle in the truck, and ordered a Court of Inquiry led by an officer of the rank of Major General.

Somehow, in the initial burst of deadly fire, six villagers died. No arms or ammunition were recovered, and all innocent coal miners in the vehicle were found returning from work.

These killings were condemned by the Nagaland and national opposition parties and most importantly by the state unit of the BJP; Nagaland BJP chief Temjen Imma Along, who is also a minister, called it a “genocide”.

Earlier this week Oting villagers offered their own version of events, accusing soldiers of putting weapons into the hands of those killed to justify the shooting.

His harshly worded narrator calls the soldiers “unprofessional, semi-trained, psychopaths”.

The military had expressed regret over the killings, but denied any attempt at cover-up, saying the bodies were being taken to the police station to be reported.
