Arunachal has successfully implemented rural electrification project
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday said that the state has successfully implemented the Centre’s rural electrification schemes like Saubhagya and Deendayal Upadhyaya Gramin Ujjwala Yojana.
According to an official press release, while participating in the review meeting of Revamped Distribution Area Scheme (RDSS) for North Eastern States in Guwahati, Meen said that all projects under Rural Electrification Schemes would be completed within the current financial year.
The RDSS comprises a mandatory smart metering ecosystem in the distribution sector from the power feeder to the consumer level.
The objective of the scheme is to improve the operational efficiency and financial stability of the Discoms.
Mein, who is also the state’s power and non-conventional energy resources minister, said the state’s remote villages, thin populations living in scattered settlements in difficult mountainous terrain and dense forests often receive heavy rains, landslides and snowfall. . The main challenges are the frequent interruption of long distribution lines during the winter season.
Despite the challenges, Arunachal Pradesh remains committed to implement the RDSS, the release said. Meen said that the electricity department has already installed 24,874 prepaid energy meters at consumers’ premises in Itanagar and Naharlagun towns in the state capital complex and the revenue collection through prepaid energy meters is very encouraging.
The meeting was presided over by the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Raj Kumar Singh.

Referring to the huge hydroelectric potential of Arunachal Pradesh, the Minister said that the state would become the main exporter of electricity in the country and the power sector would increase the state’s GDP by 2-3 times in the coming days.
