Arunachal Pradesh will get carbon credit from the hydro project
Officials said Arunachal Pradesh is dependent on its micro, small and small hydro power projects to earn carbon credits.

These hydroelectric plants are run-of-river plants, and are eligible for carbon credits. Micro-hydro projects are those up to 200 kW capacity, mini up to 2 MW and smaller up to 25 MW.
The State Hydropower Development Department is the renewable energy-generating entity that will claim carbon credits, which are issued by the Universal Carbon Registry.
The Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein, who is also in-charge of the department, was instrumental in achieving Carbon Asset Management (Carbon Credit Trading) for hydropower plants.

With 135 state-owned plants, the department has 74.88 million units of electricity, which is equivalent to 54,410 carbon credits annually and can earn around Rs 1.15 crore at the current rate. The state is going through the first phase out of a three-stage process of registration, debt recovery and trading.
Hydropower and planning commissioner Prashant Lokhande said the government expects to get the credit somewhere in 3-4 months or at most six months.
