Assam migrant shot dead in Manipur
Imphal: Suspected insurgents shot dead a migrant laborer from Assam late Tuesday night in Wangoi area of Imphal West district.
The deceased Mohd. Rijul (25) was engaged in the ongoing construction of an RCC bridge over Imphal River at Wangoi Leephrakapam Awang Leikai under PMGSY.
Rijul, along with his associates, was in a makeshift camp near the construction site when some unidentified persons fired at them and one of the bullets hit Rijul, seriously injuring him. He was taken to Raj Medicity Hospital here where he died on Wednesday morning, a police source said.
Locals condemned the killing of the worker
Meanwhile, the local people of Leefrakapam area strongly condemned the killing of the migrant worker. He demanded the government to register a case against the culprits and deploy security personnel at the bridge construction site.
On getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and launched a search operation in the entire area. A case has been registered at Wangoi police station to ascertain the veracity of the incident and trace the culprits. Rijul’s body has been kept in the mortuary of RIMS Hospital for post-mortem.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident till the filing of this report.
