Assam Rifles 7 including Army Colonel, his wife and 8-year-old son killed terrorist attack in Manipur
Reportedly, the wife and son of the commanding officer died on the spot, while five jawans were also killed in the attack.
Imphal: Five Assam Rifles personnel and two of their family members were killed in an ambush on their convoy by a group of terrorists in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Saturday.
Terrorists attacked the convoy of Colonel Biplab Tripathi, the commanding officer of 46 Assam Rifles, in Singhat sub-division. The officer was traveling with his family members and a rapid response team when the attack took place.
The officer and his wife and 8-year-old son died on the spot, while four jawans were also martyred in the attack.
The army said four other soldiers were also injured in the attack.
Army officials said, “The terrorists first detonated an IED to attack the convoy of Colonel Biplab Tripathi, the commanding officer of 46 Assam Rifles and then fired at vehicles at Churachandpur in Manipur. The officer moved from his forward company base to his battalion headquarters. were returning.” , reported ANI.

Expressing grief over the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers will never be forgotten.
He said, “Strongly condemn the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur. I pay homage to the soldiers and family members who have been martyred today. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. In this hour of grief. My condolences are with the bereaved families.” tweeted.

Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh strongly condemned the attack and said he would do his best to prosecute the perpetrators legally.
He said that this is inhuman and a terrorist act which should not end silently without any legal action.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also condemned the attack and said that the perpetrators would be brought to justice soon.

“The cowardly attack on the Assam Rifles convoy at Churachandpur in Manipur is extremely painful and condemnable. The nation has lost 5 brave soldiers including CO 46 AR and two family members. My condolences to the bereaved families. The perpetrators will get justice soon. Will be brought to court,” he said in a tweet.
Manipur, like many northeastern states, is home to dozens of armed groups, either fighting for greater autonomy or secession.
Manipur-based People’s Liberation Army is suspected to be behind the attack.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that security forces have identified 38 Pakistani terrorists operating in the Kashmir Valley and a coordinated operation will be launched soon to neutralize them.
Sources said on Friday that out of 38 militants, 27 are from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and 11 from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and they are on the radar of security forces.
He also said that the hideouts of these militants have been traced, which are spread over Srinagar, Pulwama, Baramulla and Kulgam and other parts of the Valley, while some of them may be hiding in the forest areas as well.
