Assam Rifles caught wildlife smuggler in Mizoram
Recently, wildlife smuggling has been on the rise in Mizoram. Intensifying the crackdown on illegal wildlife trade, the Serchhip Battalion of the Assam Rifles on Tuesday apprehended a wildlife smuggler from Champhai district and recovered two exotic pythons from his possession.
The smuggler was arrested while trying to cross the Tiau River with a crate containing animals. Assam Rifles personnel recovered two pythons, including a ball python and a Burmese python, from the smuggler.
The recovery was made on the basis of specific inputs from sources informing about possible smuggling of exotic animals along the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, the seized python and the person caught have been handed over to the Champhai Forest Department for further legal proceedings.
The smuggler has been identified as Biaknehthanga of Jokhawthar.
