Assam Rifles celebrates 63rd Raising Day in Aizawl

The 63rd Utthan Diwas was celebrated by 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the supervision of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East).

The 23rd Sector Assam Rifles under the supervision of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) organized a series of programs including special soldier conference for all ranks, officers and JCO mess and temple program at Bada Khana on Saturday and by children.

Brigadier Digvijay Singh, SM, DIG 23 Sector Assam Rifles, 80 families and 250 Assam Rifles personnel were present on the occasion. The events are conducted with full enthusiasm and loudness.

According to another press release, Lunglei Battalion and Serchip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the supervision of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) delivered lectures on ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’ at Tuipang village in Sentifyang and battalion headquarters in Lunglei on Saturday.

A total of 372 soldiers and 62 local residents from Lunglei, Tuipang and Sentifyang villages attended the lecture, which was aimed at creating awareness about suicide prevention. The aim was to promote self-empowerment so that self-harm and suicide could be addressed.

These can be achieved through capacity building of health care providers, positive and informative messaging targeting at-risk groups such as the general public and youth, and facilitating open discussions on mental health in homes, schools, and workplaces.

Those contemplating or affected by a suicide attempt were also encouraged to share their stories and seek professional help. This awareness program also discusses ways to deal with suicidal tendencies as and when they arise in anyone’s mind. There was an attempt to spread the message that “life is the solution, not suicide.”

The villagers applauded the Assam Rifles for addressing such a sensitive issue that is very prevalent in today’s society. The locals expressed their gratitude to others for their resolve to spread more awareness on this sensitive and less talked about issue.
