Silchar: The Assam Rifles has established its footprint as an engine of welfare activities not only to fight the enemies of the nation but also for the betterment of all living in the far flung corners of Barak Valley, Dima Hasao district and Manipur . . From organizing online interactions with teachers, distributing necessary assistance to the targeted people, it has caught an NSCN cadre during the last fortnight. The message is quite clear, ‘get the help and guidance you need, but give up the gun-culture path’ or face the music.
Schools are yet to reopen due to the pandemic situation. The Kadmatala Battalion of Assam Rifles contacted 21 teachers from various institutions through video conferencing and motivated them to dedicate themselves for better education of the students and imbibe human qualities to make the society different and idealistic.
In keeping with the UNESCO declared theme ‘Teachers at the heart of education reform’, the Assam Rifles generally emphasized on people playing a constructive role to help fight the COVID-19 menace. All support and encouragement was also assured for both the teachers and the teachers. The move by the Assam Rifles drew applause in academic circles.
Apart from this, Maitri Bal distributed dry ration among 45 needy families of Chilli and Genmaghat villages of Dima Hasao district with further assurance in future. The benefit of ration was also given to 35 poor families of Barabekra and Gaukhal in Jiribam district.
Apart from this, the Assam Rifles conducted an online pre recruitment counseling for vacancies for the youth of hill villages. The lecture was designed to guide and help the youth to prepare for counselling. Special emphasis was laid on motivating the youth to disseminate information in maximum numbers. Such free counseling through power point presentation created the desired effect. Every care was taken in arranging the set of programmes.
In the midst of its humanitarian work, the Assam Rifles is also alert to any misadventure by underground militants for the safety and security of the people around. An NSCN (K-Nikki) cadre collapsed while trying to hit a soft target in Cachar. He was caught with a 9 mm revolver and other ammunition. He has been identified as Thuimei Panei of Tamenlong district. Ultra along with the confiscated weapons was handed over to Jirighat police on the border of Manipur.
