Cachar Administration and Assam Rifles moved people to relief camps, Assam flood
While heavy rains created panic among the people of Cachar district, the water level of Barak river rose above the danger level of 19.83 meters at Annapurna Ghat on Saturday and many areas in the district were inundated.
From Sunday morning, there has been some respite as the water level remained steady at 20.03 meters at 4 pm, with a downward trend of at least 2 cm per hour from early morning. The water level again started rising at the rate of 4 cm per hour. The water level was last recorded at 20.45 cm at 8 am on Monday.

Meanwhile, responding to the dire situation in Borkhola, in which the water level was rising significantly and several houses were submerged, officials of the Cachar district administration reached out to the affected people.
Balichora and Borkhola and approached Assam Rifles to rescue the victims and shift them to relief camps with necessary relief assistance.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Kirti Jalli, who had visited a relief camp in Borkhola on Sunday, urged people to cooperate with the administration.
“We request everyone for their cooperation and remain calm in the present circumstances. The district administration is working hard to ensure minimum damage.

Most importantly, we request people to keep their children away from nearby water areas, especially avoid power lines and maintain cleanliness. We are all working day and night in your service,” appealed the Deputy Commissioner.
Assam Rifles informed the media that responding to the SOS call of the district administration, jawans under Headquarters 21 Sector Assam Rifles and IGAR (East) launched a rescue operation.
Prompt and coordinated action was taken to rescue the people in the submerged areas of Jatinga river, giving priority to women, elderly, infirm and children.

Ongoing rescue operations have helped in saving lives and a major disaster has been averted for the time being. The local people have appreciated the excellent service rendered by the Assam Rifles. Assam Rifles sources said around 47-49 civilians, including 23 children, 15 women and 14 elderly people, were saved.
