
Assam Rifles recovers large consignment of explosive material and IED in Manipur
The Assam Rifles on Wednesday thwarted a terrorist attempt to perpetrate violence in Manipur and recovered a huge cache of explosive material and six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) near Betuk village along the Myanmar border.
Acting on a tip-off, a defense spokesperson said that the Moreh Battalion of the Assam Rifles, acting on a tip-off, apprehended a man riding a motorcycle imported from Myanmar with a suspicious wooden box.
On being challenged by the soldiers, the man dropped the wooden box and fled back to Myanmar.

Assam Rifles personnel recovered six IEDs along with cortex, electrical wires and explosive material from the wooden box.
A spokesman of the force said that ahead of the assembly elections in Manipur, the Assam Rifles is actively guarding the 400-km-long Indo-Myanmar border.
It is suspected that the IEDs were meant to disrupt the election process in Manipur, the spokesperson said.

The seized IED and explosive material have been handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
Assembly elections in Manipur will be held in two phases – on February 28 and March 5. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
