Assam Rifles seized foreign origin cigarettes worth over Rs 1 crore
The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East) on Friday recovered cigarettes of foreign origin worth Rs 1,04,00,000 at Dungtlang in Champhai district of Mizoram.
Assam Rifles said in a statement that on specific information, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Dungtlang Police carried out the operation.
The estimated value of the seized foreign origin cigarettes is Rs.1,04,00,000.
The confiscated items were handed over to the Customs Preventive Force at Dangtlang Police Station for further legal proceedings.

It added that the ongoing smuggling is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The Assam Rifles, popularly known as the ‘Prahari of the Northeast’, continues its efforts against smuggling activities in Mizoram.
