In another success in the crusade against smuggling, the Serchip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the supervision of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) recovered 255.66 grams of heroin worth Rs 1,27,83,000 from Keitum area on Saturday.

A team of eight Assam Rifles and the excise department of Serchip conducted the raid on a tip-off, a statement said.
The excise department of Serchip seized the contraband and detained one person for further legal proceedings. Heroin smuggling is a major concern for the state of Mizoram, especially on the Indo-Myanmar border.

Rifles (East), on Sunday held ‘Local Level Panel Discussion on Drug Eradication’ and ‘Anti-Drug Awareness Rally’ at Mimbung and Ngopa Company Operating Base (COB) respectively under the ‘Ruihlo-do’ anti-drug awareness campaign. A total of 110 civilians participated in the discussion.
The goal of the event was to promote fitness and motivate civilians and soldiers not to engage in drug use. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of awareness against drug abuse and its negative impact on society. The bad health effects of recreational drug abuse are also discussed.

Locals are advised not to engage in illegal activities that could ruin their future.
Support from women and elders was included to highlight the adverse effects of drug use. The locals appreciated the efforts of the Assam Rifles for organizing such events for the betterment of the society and providing knowledge about drugs and their effects.
