Assam Rifles seizes foreign cigarettes worth over Rs 2.34 crore in Mizoram

In yet another success in its operation against smuggling activities, Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East) recovered foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 2,34,72,900 (78,333 packets) in Khuangpha area. Champhai district on Saturday.

On specific information, a team of 2 Assam Rifles carried out the operation, a press release said.
The seized cigarettes were handed over to the Customs Department in Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) carried out a ‘tree plantation drive’ to celebrate World Environment Day at 23 Sector Assam Rifles premises in Aizawl here on Sunday.

A total of 700 saplings including different types of fruit trees and flowering plants were planted on the occasion. A total of 140 Assam Rifles personnel participated in the event.
The aim of the campaign was to spread awareness about the importance of tree plantation and how it has a direct impact on our lives. The world is facing many environmental issues like air pollution, water pollution and deforestation.
All of this has resulted in increased concentrations of greenhouse gases, increased land and ocean temperatures, melting ice, rising sea levels, and extreme weather conditions.
