
Assam’s Manohari Gold Tea set a record, selling at Rs 99,999 per kg
Assam’s famous and rare variety of tea Manohari Gold Tea has created a record after being auctioned at a price of Rs 99,999 per kg on Tuesday.
Manohari Gold Tea has once again created history by breaking its own record. Gold tea was bought by Sourav Tea Traders at the highest bid of Rs 99,999 per kg.
Manohari Gold Tea is produced by Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam. It is being claimed that this is the highest price ever paid for tea in a public auction.
Earlier, a rare variety of Assam tea, called Golden Butterfly Tea from Dicom Tea Estate of Rossel Tea Industries, sold at Rs 75,000 per kg at Guwahati Tea Auction Center (GATC).
Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association (GTABA) Secretary Dinesh Bihani told India Today that Manohari Gold Tea has once again created history at the Guwahati Tea Auction Center on Tuesday at a price of Rs 99,999 per kg.

This is a world record in the auction of tea. It is a proud moment for us that Manohari Golden Tips Tea is selling at Rs.99,999 per kg. This tea is special and rare and is produced by Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district. I hope that the tea industry of Assam will produce this type of special tea, white tea, oolong tea, green tea, yellow tea in near future also. Mangilal Maheshwari, a local buyer of Saurabh Tea Traders, bought the tea,” said Dinesh Bihani.
He further added that Manohari Gold Tea is now available at the Tea Lounge premises of Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
Earlier in August 2019, Golden Butterfly tea of Dicom Tea Estate was sold at Guwahati Tea Auction Center (GTAC) cell no 33 through GTAC Broker for Rs 75,000 and the tea was sold as one of the oldest tea shops. Bought by one. M/s Assam Tea Trader in Guwahati to his customers.

On 30 July 2019, Manohari Gold manufactured by Manohari Tea Estate in Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam sold at Rs 50,000 per kg at Guwahati Tea Auction Center and was bought by Saurabh Tea Traders from Guwahati.

It is worth mentioning that Assam is one of the largest tea growing regions of the world as the industry has been growing continuously for 200 years and the tea of Assam is very famous in the world.
According to reports, about 174.1 million kg of tea was sold at the Guwahati Tea Auction Center in 2016-17 and this figure increased to 184.4 million kg in 2017-18, 1829 million kg in 2018-19 and 162.2 million kg in 2019 – 20.
A total of 1241 tea gardens and 244 buyers are registered under the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
