Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed in Bengal 9 killed
The accident happened more than 90 km from Alipurduar Junction.
12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express (15633) derailed in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, killing at least nine people and injuring over 40 passengers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was meeting with the Chief Ministers of the states regarding Kovid, got information about the accident from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Nine people died after 12 coaches of Bikaner-Guwahati Express (15633) derailed on Thursday in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal,” ANI tweeted, quoting the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway.
The train, which started from Bikaner in Rajasthan, was on its way to Guwahati in Assam via Patna, when the accident took place near Mainaguri in Jalpaiguri at around 5.15 pm. on Thursday. Mainaguri was not one of the 34 stoppages of the train and Bikaner Express was passing only through Jalpaiguri at the time of incident.

A total of 1,200 passengers were on board the aircraft, including 177 who boarded the train from Bikaner and 98 passengers boarded the train from Patna Junction.
“Very concerned to hear about the tragic accident of Bikaner-Guwahati Express at Maynaguri. Senior state government officials, DM/SP/IG North Bengal are monitoring the rescue and relief operations. The injured will get medical help at the earliest. ,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said. She also apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the accident.
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “Talked to GM @RailNf & found that all efforts are on to provide assistance to injured & passengers @RailMinIndia @MamataOfficial. Passengers will be taken to Guwahati by another train. Wishing speedy recovery of injured.” Pray,” Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said. ,
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared an update about the rescue operations through his tweet: “In an unfortunate accident, 12 coaches of Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailed near New Maynaguri (West Bengal) this evening. Quick We are personally monitoring the situation for rescue operations.”

He further said, “Spoke to the Hon’ble PM and apprised him of the rescue operations.”

President Ram Nath Kovind also took to Twitter and said, “Saddened by the derailment of the Bikaner-Guhavati Express train near New Maynaguri, West Bengal. My condolences and prayers are with the affected passengers and their families. I wish them speedy recovery. I wish you well. Injured.”

Later PM Modi expressed condolences to the bereaved families. He wrote on his Twitter handle, “Spoke to Railway Minister Shri @ashwiniVaishnav and took stock of the situation in the wake of train accident in West Bengal. My condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”

Saddened by this tragic incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, “Saddened to learn about the loss of lives due to a tragic train accident in West Bengal. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing the injured a speedy recovery. I pray.”

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the incident and wrote, “The loss of lives due to a train accident in North West Bengal is sad. My condolences to the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest.” ”

BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jai Panda has expressed grief over the unfortunate incident. He wrote on Twitter, “Sad to learn about the loss of lives in an unfortunate train accident in West Bengal. Deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. Om Shanti.”

Railway authorities have announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the dead, Rs 1 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 to the less seriously injured.
According to railway officials, the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained but there was no problem with the signal and it is feared that the accident happened due to some problem on the track.
“State rescue team with three teams of NDRF is working on the rescue operation and so far 40 people have been rescued. The injured have been shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Specialty Hospital and the seriously injured have been shifted to North Bengal Medical Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Moumita Godara Basu said.
