BJP has won the Assam civic elections winning 75 of the 80 municipal boards
BJP and its ally AGP on Wednesday won the Assam civic elections, winning 77 out of 80 municipal boards.
BJP won 75 and the AGP two, while the Congress won a single and the Independents won a majority in two municipal boards in the state’s first local body elections where EVMs were used.
According to CM Himanta Bishwa Sharma, the BJP has won 742 out of 977 wards on 80 boards, while the AGP has won 65. Congress has won in 71 wards, while others have won in 99 wards Candidates have won unopposed in 57 wards

The Congress did not get a majority in either, but the state PCC leadership said the party would seek the support of two independents to run the Narayanpur municipality board in Lakhimpur district.
Many AGP nominees, too, were defeated by BJP at AGP strongholds in the upper and lower Assam districts, where an electoral alliance between the two state-level alliances could not be sewn.
BJP has also done well in districts with a significant population of religious minority voters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, home minister Amit Shah and CM Sarma congratulated the people on the landslide victory. “I am grateful to the people of Assam for blessing the BJP and our allies in the recently concluded municipal elections.
It demonstrates their confidence in our party’s development agenda. I commend our hardworking officers for their efforts and service to the people, “Modi tweeted.
Sarma said that Joy reflects people’s confidence in Modi’s support, development, faith and vision of all efforts.

The AAP has made history by registering its first victory in the Assam civic elections – Dhiraj Singh has won from Ward No. 11 of Tinsukia. Besides, the party has occupied another ward.
Apart from Hailakandi, six more municipal boards across the Barak Valley have gone to the BJP. Independents have won in 10 of the 16 wards in Hailakandi and BJP in 6 wards.
