Bomb blast in Imphal
IMPHAL: There is news of a bomb blast from Manipur’s Imphal.
Suspected militants detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at the residential gate of an assistant registrar of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Imphal at Kangjabi Lekungbam Lekai in the heart of Manipur’s Imphal city on Monday night.
The Manipur Police said that although no one was injured in the incident, the impact of the blast created a crater about one foot in diameter near the main entrance of the registrar’s residence, damaging the window panes of the house. ,
According to the CCTV footage installed at the gate of NIT assistant registrar Lekangbam Dorandro, two masked people who came on Honda Activa put a black polythene bag at the gate at around 11.45 pm on Monday night.
They then sped away on their two-wheelers as fast as they could. The bomb exploded at around 11.55 pm causing damage to the surrounding areas.
Immediately, Manipur Police, bomb experts and a forensic team reached the spot and investigated the incident.
Meanwhile, Dorandro said that organizations or individuals involved in the explosion should immediately clarify and if there is any misunderstanding, they should negotiate a peaceful solution instead of creating danger to the public.
He said that he has not received any threat from any organization so far. He also said that such acts of terrorizing people in a crowded place should not be repeated in future and further questioned who would be responsible if the blast caused human casualties.
