Russia Captured Ukraine’s Second Largest Power Plant, Says Zelensky Aide
Russia-Ukraine war: Russian forces have captured Ukraine’s second-largest power plant, President’s adviser Oleksey Erestovich said in an interview.
A senior adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that the Russian military is “massively redeploying” troops to three southern regions of Ukraine, in what appears to be a change of strategy by Moscow.
Russian forces have captured Ukraine’s second-largest power plant, President’s adviser Oleksey Erestovich said in an interview posted on YouTube. Russian-backed forces had previously announced the capture of the Soviet-era coal-fired Vuhlehirsk plant in eastern Ukraine.

“They made a small tactical advantage – they captured Vuhlhirsk,” said Erestovich.
Erestovich said Russia is turning to a strategic defense from offense, using tactical strikes to undermine Ukraine’s offensive potential in the crucial eastern Donetsk industrial region.
“(This) will put us in a position where we are unable to liberate our entire territory and call for dialogue,” he said.
Ukraine has made it clear that it wants to recapture the southern city of Kherson, which had fallen to Russia in the early days of the war.

Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council secretary Oleksey Danilov had earlier tweeted that Russia was concentrating “the maximum number of troops” in Kherson’s direction, but gave no details.

Erestovich said Russia was also sending troops south to the Melitopol and Zaporizhzhya regions.
Ukraine has opened fire on an important bridge over the Dnipro River in Kherson, shutting down traffic. Russian officials had previously said they would turn to pontoon bridges and ferries instead to bring troops across the river.
