China on Friday attacked the United States for allegedly provoking the Russia-Ukraine conflict and blamed it for the expansion of the Western military alliance NATO to protect itself from any nation’s aggression.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters at a daily briefing, “As the perpetrator and key catalyst of the Ukraine crisis, the US has engaged NATO in five rounds of eastward expansion over the past two decades since 1999. ”
“The number of NATO members has increased from 16 to 30, and they have moved more than 1,000 kilometers (600 mi) to the east somewhere near the Russian border, pushing Russia to the wall step by step,” he said. ,” They said.
While in Russia’s shadow, Ukraine has long expressed a desire to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a Western military alliance, to protect itself from aggression from any nation. Russia, which Ukraine demanded on February 24, that Ukraine abandon the demand and declare itself neutral.

While the West has been trying to isolate Russia on Ukraine, China has distanced itself from the pressure, refraining from condemning the violence. It has also opposed severe sanctions by the US and the West. Also on Friday, Zhao said China rejects “solving problems through sanctions”.
“China refuses to solve problems through sanctions, and we are opposed to unilateral sanctions and prolonged jurisdiction that have no basis in international law,” Zhao said.
