China will send trops to Russia for joint military exercises
China’s Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that Chinese troops will travel to Russia to participate in joint military exercises, including from the host and countries including India, Belarus, Mongolia, Tajikistan and other countries.
The ministry said in a statement that China’s participation in the joint exercise was “unrelated to the current international and regional situation”.

Last month, Moscow announced plans to hold “Vostok” (East) exercises from August 30 to September 5, even though it is waging a costly war in Ukraine. It was said at the time that some foreign powers would participate without naming them.
Its last such exercise was in 2018, when China took part for the first time.
China’s defense ministry said its participation in the exercise is part of an ongoing bilateral annual cooperation agreement with Russia.
“It aims to deepen practical and friendly cooperation with the armies of the participating countries, to increase the level of strategic cooperation between the participating parties and to strengthen the ability to respond to various security threats,” the statement said. ”

Under Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Beijing and Moscow have become increasingly close.
Shortly before Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine, Beijing and Moscow announced a “no-border” partnership, although US officials say they saw China attack Russia as the U.S. Avoiding U.S.-led sanctions or providing it with military equipment.
Russia’s Eastern Military District includes part of Siberia and is headquartered in Khabarovsk, near the Chinese border.
