Two days holiday announced in UP; Teaching activities will remain closed in DU

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the countrymen on the festival of Holi. “Wishing you all a very Happy Holi. May this festival of colors symbolize mutual love, affection and brotherhood, bring every color of happiness in your life.”

Congratulating on the eve of Holi, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said that on the occasion of the festival of colours, people should strive to strengthen the bond of friendship and unity that holds the society together.

Delhi Police on Thursday said that it has made adequate security arrangements for Holi celebrations to prevent goons and drunken driving.

Maharashtra government, on the other hand, issued guidelines for the festival, asking people to celebrate it without massive gatherings and follow COVID-appropriate behavior as the disease is still prevalent.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday declared a two-day holiday for Holi. According to a notice issued by the government, there will be an official holiday in the entire state on March 18 and 19.

Meanwhile, Delhi University said that teaching activities will remain suspended on March 17 in view of Holi. In a notification, the university said that all the libraries of the university will also remain closed.

The Islamic Center of India has urged mosques to revise the timing of Friday prayers, as Holi will be celebrated on the same day.
