Eight dead and 23 missing after a major landslide at the Manipur Mega train project site
Manipur landslide: The district administration is in contact with national and state disaster management agencies for search, rescue and relief operations.
At least eight people were killed and 13 were injured after a major landslide in a town in the Nonnie district of western Manipur.
The incident took place on Wednesday night at the Tuppleyard Railroad Construction Camp.

Many of the murdered people belonged to the territorial forces that guarded the construction sites of major railroad lines, officials said.
Landslides could also block the flow of rivers, create dam-like waters, and remove debris to cause floods and complex environmental disasters.
If the flow of the Ijay River, which is structured like a dam, is obstructed, floods can occur in the lowlands if the situation worsens. Police have taken precautions against Nonnie’s residents and urged them not to let their children go near the river.

Residents are being asked to pay attention to the continuous rain that can exacerbate the situation.
Manipur Prime Minister N Biren Singh held an emergency meeting.

Due to multiple blockages caused by landslides during the heavy rains of the past few days, the use of Route 37, which passes through this area, has been urged to be avoided.
Union Interior Minister Amit Shah spoke to Manipur Prime Minister N Biren Singh and Railroad Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about the incident.
