Eviction imminent in Deepor Beel: Assam tourism department plans to build houseboats
To promote Deepar Beel as a tourist destination, the Assam government plans to evict all illegal occupants from the state’s only Ramsar site, Deepar Beel, which is located in the city.
To promote Deepar Beel as a tourist attraction, the Assam government plans to remove all illegal occupants from Deepar Beel, the only Ramsar site in the state, located in the city.
Dipor Beel, also known as Dipor Beel, is an Assamese lake located southwest of Guwahati in the Kamrup metropolitan district of Assam, India.
It is an uninterrupted freshwater lake located south of the main river, in a historic Brahmaputra river channel. The Ramsar Convention, which in November 2002 declared the lake a Ramsar site, referred to it as a wetland, requiring protection due to its biological and environmental importance.
During the winter session of the state assembly on Monday, the Assam Tourism Department requested the state revenue department to prepare a report on the illegal occupation of the Deepar Bill and submit it within 10 days. The state tourism department wants to build a watch tower to test the potential for infrastructure development like Dal Lake in Kashmir.
“Our administration has a strong position against illegal occupation,” Assam Tourism Minister Bimal Bora told the House. Illegal immigrants have been deported from Garukhuti, Lumding Forest and other places. I would like to submit the report of illegal occupation of Deepar Bill and its vicinity to the Revenue Department within 10 days.

“Since Dipur Beel was declared a bird sanctuary, there have been technical hurdles in setting up various infrastructures in the area,” he said. On 18 December, the Forest Department agreed to give us some land in exchange for building the necessary infrastructure for tourism expansion in the area. We’re going to build the Watchtower and 100 houseboats. ”
