First climber from Arunachal Pradesh to conquer Everest goes missing

The Arunachal climber is reportedly missing for the past seven days when he was on an official mission to search for snow-capped Mount Kyrisatam.

Tapi Mara, the first Arunachali to scale Mount Everest, is reportedly missing for the past seven days when he was on an official mission to locate the snow-capped Mount Kyrisatam, one of the highest peaks in Arunachal Pradesh.

Mountaineering and paragliding associations on Monday appealed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for help in locating the 37-year-old Everest.

Arunachal Pradesh Paragliding Association President Vijay Sonam and Arunachal Pradesh Mountaineering Association President, Sika Gapak confirmed that Mr has gone missing and efforts are on to trace Hi, also general secretary of Mr Mountaineering Association.

He climbed the world’s highest peak on 21 May 2009.

“This was Mr.’s fourth attempt to measure Kyrisatum,” Gapak said.

Sonam, who reached Seppa East Kameng district headquarters in search of Mara, told PTI over telephone that a man from the Puroik tribe had accompanied Sri to climb Mount Kyrisatam, while his five porters are waiting at the base camp. His disappearance was reported by two Puroic porters, a father and son, who had returned to Cepa on Sunday.

Sonam has requested Chief Minister Pema Khadu to send a National Disaster Response Team to search and rescue the climber.

He also urged residents of Puroik villages in remote hilly areas of the district to help Mira in the search operation.

East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Pravimal Abhishek Polumtala could not be contacted for his comments.
