A French journalist was killed when Russia bombed a vehicle evacuating civilians from eastern Ukraine, French and Ukrainian officials said.
“Friedrich Leclerc-Imhoff was in Ukraine to show the reality of war,” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on Twitter on Monday.

Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, who visited Kiev on Monday, wrote on Twitter that Leclerc-Imhoff “was killed by a Russian bomb on a humanitarian mission while performing garbage collection duties.”
“He was mortally wounded, forcing civilians to flee aboard a humanitarian bus to avoid Russian bombing.”
The BFM said its reporter received shrapnel from the bombing, and his colleague Maxim Brandstetter was injured. His local fixture Oksana Leuter was unhurt.
“This tragic incident reminds us of the dangers faced by all journalists who have been risking their lives to cover this conflict for more than three months,” the BFM said in a statement.

Leclerc-Imhoff was working for the BFM television news channel, which said she was 32 years old and on her second reporting trip to Ukraine since the fighting began on 24 February.
The French and Ukrainian foreign ministries said in separate statements that he was near Severdonetsk in eastern Ukraine, a town that has been exacerbated by the advance of Russian troops in recent weeks.
“I have spoken to the Luhansk government and asked President [Volodymyr] Zelensky for an investigation, and he has assured me of their help and support,” he wrote.
“I share the grief of his family, relatives and allies,” Macron wrote, adding “I want to reiterate France’s unconditional support to those who secured the difficult mission of reporting in war zones.”
