Germany pledges $199 million in aid for displaced people in Ukraine
Development Minister Svenja Schultz told the Funke media group that Germany would provide Ukraine with an additional 200 million euros ($199.02 million) for aid programs for those internally displaced as a result of Russia’s invasion.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shyamal will travel to Berlin on Monday where he will meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“I will talk to Prime Minister Shyamal about how we can continue to support the Ukrainian government in caring for displaced people,” Schulz said.
“The purpose of the money is to help displaced people in Ukraine to provide them with the things they need,” he said.
As of 23 August, about 7 million people have been internally displaced in Ukraine since Russia’s February 24 invasion, according to data from the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration.
Last month, a German government official said the EU intended to deliver a financial package for Ukraine worth about €8 billion by September, to which Germany would contribute.
US ambassador leaves from Russia at the end of the mission

US Ambassador to Moscow John Sullivan left Russia after completing his diplomatic term, the embassy said in a statement.
Sullivan, 62, was appointed ambassador to Moscow in December 2019.
“Elizabeth Roode will take over as the char d’affaires at the US Embassy in Moscow until a successor to Ambassador Sullivan arrives,” the embassy said in a press release.
Sullivan was an assistant secretary of state headed by Donald Trump, and held several senior positions in the ministries of justice, defense, and commerce throughout his career.

About a hundred German troops arrived in Lithuania after Germany promised to increase its presence in NATO’s eastern flank following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The soldiers left by ferry in the port city of Kalipeda. He was to form the command unit of a new brigade, a group usually composed of about 4,000 soldiers.
The command unit will remain permanently in the Baltic nation, while combat units will join them for the exercise, said Christian Navarat, the brigade’s commander.
Germany, which leads the NATO battle group in Lithuania, already has about 1,500 German troops in Lithuania.
