India vehemently rejects Chinas objection to VP Naidus visit to Arunachal

The brief exchanges between the two countries highlighted tensions caused by the standoff in eastern Ladakh, which has been going on for more than a year and a half, and fresh face-offs between troops from both sides in sectors of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh. has been encountered. LAC

India on Wednesday rejected China’s objection to Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh and again called on the Chinese side to work for a speedy resolution of the standoff at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The brief exchanges between the two countries highlighted tensions caused by the standoff in eastern Ladakh, which has been going on for more than a year and a half, and fresh face-offs between troops from both sides in sectors of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh. has been encountered. LAC.

Naidu made a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh over the weekend as part of his tour of the Northeast and addressed a special session of the state assembly in Itanagar on Saturday. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, in response to a question on a visit by state media, said Beijing does not recognize Arunachal Pradesh and strongly opposes visits by Indian leaders to the region.

Hours later, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi rejected China’s objection to the visit and said Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.

“We have noted the comments made by the Chinese official spokesperson today [Wednesday]. We reject such comments. Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inseparable part of India,” Bagchi said.

“Indian leaders regularly visit the state of Arunachal Pradesh, as they do in any other state in India. Objecting to the visit of Indian leaders to the state of India does not stand for the logic and understanding of the Indian people,” he said.

India’s demand for China to expedite the resolution of the standoff in eastern Ladakh was reiterated by Bagchi, who again accused the Chinese side of creating tension along the LAC through unilateral efforts to “change the status quo” in the border areas.

“Further, as we have mentioned earlier, the current situation along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas has been caused by unilateral efforts by the Chinese side to change the status quo in violation of bilateral agreements,” he said. .

“Therefore, we expect the Chinese side to work towards an early resolution of the remaining issues along the LAC in Eastern Ladakh by fully adhering to bilateral agreements and protocols instead of trying to add to unrelated issues,” Bagchi said. ”

The lifting of Naidu’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh by Chinese state-run media was a sign that Beijing deliberately issued it against the backdrop of the ongoing tensions caused by the LAC standoff.

Responding to a question from Xinjiang Television, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao said: “China’s position on the border issue is consistent and clear. The Chinese government has never recognized the so-called Arunachal Pradesh unilaterally and illegally established by the Indian side. and strongly opposed the visit of the Indian leader to the respective region.

“We urge the Indian side to sincerely respect China’s core concerns, stop taking any actions that complicate and expand the border issue, and refrain from undermining mutual trust and bilateral relations,” Zhao said. Instead, it should take genuine concrete action to maintain peace and stability in the China-India border areas and help the bilateral relations get back on the path of sound and stable development.

During his address to the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Naidu had highlighted the transformation of the Northeast and said that it was a testament to the resurgence in the development of the region after being neglected for decades.

China has often objected to visits by Indian leaders and even the Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh as part of attempts to claim the region, which Beijing refers to as “South Tibet”.

The latest exchanges between the foreign ministries of India and China came two days after a meeting of senior military commanders failed to make any progress on de-escalation and de-escalation at remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh.

The two countries doubled down on their position in response to constructive suggestions to end the standoff at the LAC, and the Indian side said the Chinese side “did not agree” and “could not make any forward-looking proposals”. A spokesman for China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) argued that India was making “unreasonable and unrealistic” demands.

New Delhi has asserted that ending the LAC impasse is necessary to ensure progress in overall bilateral relations. Chinese leaders have said in recent months that the border issue should be separated from other aspects of bilateral ties, a suggestion rejected by the Indian side.

The standoff on the LAC came to the fore after violent clashes in the Pangong Lake area on May 5 last year.
