Kidnapped Manipur minor girl rescued from Tezpur
Imphal: A teenage student who was allegedly seduced and kidnapped by her private tutor in Manipur last year was rescued in Assam on Sunday in a joint operation carried out by the two state police forces.
The 13-year-old student from Class VIII of Khangabok Higher Secondary School was allegedly abducted on December 15 by her private guardian from her residence in Hayellabuk village in Thoubal district of Manipur.
The accused guardian identified as 24-year-old Thokchom Kenedy is a resident of Khangabok Lamdaibung in Thoubal district.
They were taken to the Thoubal police station on Monday, police said.
While the minor girl was handed over to her relatives, Kenedy was brought before a local court, which sent him into police custody.
He is a married man with two children, police in Imphal said Tuesday.
A joint team of Manipur police and their Assam counterpart tracked down the whereabouts of the two people and apprehended the kidnapper and rescued the girl from Assam’s Tezpur center on January 8.
Dayas Aribam, coordinator of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the kidnapping case, expressed his gratitude to the two police teams for rescuing the girl.
Aribam urged the relevant authorities to take strict measures against the alleged kidnapper according to the law of the land.
