Landslide death toll in Manipur crosses 50
On Saturday, the 10th day of the search operation, rescue workers found a body from the rubble of the Tupul landslide site in Noni district, raising the death toll in the worst natural disaster in the state to 50, while 11 bodies are still missing. ,
A source said that the body recovered is said to be that of a senior railway engineer, adding that identification of the body has become a difficult task due to tissue dissection.

A sophisticated metal detector procured from Himachal Pradesh reached the spot on Saturday and it is expected to help rescuers in locating the bodies buried under the rubble.
The device can detect any metal or metal-material that is worn or held by missing persons such as rings, chains and mobile phones.
The landslide struck a large part of the Marangching Part 5 mountain range in Tupul in the early hours of 30 June, and brought down the railway construction yard, which housed quarters for the Territorial Army (TA), railway officers, construction workers and temporary homes. of local villagers.

Of the total 79 persons affected by the landslide, 18 including 13 TA men and five villagers were rescued on the same day. Official sources said the 11 missing included labourers, local villagers and a railway and TA personnel.
