
Magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolts Thenzawl of Mizoram, tremors were also felt in Kolkata
An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck Mizoram’s Thenzawl at around 5.15 am on Friday.
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Mizoram’s Thenzawl in the early hours of Friday.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake hit the area at around 5:15 am.

It was felt in Chittagong in Bangladesh and the eastern Indian city of Kolkata, about 280 miles (450.62 km) from Aizawl, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) website and accounts of witnesses posted by users on Twitter.
“Very strong,” one such witness posted on EMSC from Chittagong, about 184 km (115 mi) west of the epicenter of the quake.
According to EMSC and India’s earthquake monitoring agency, the tremors were felt in the states of Northeast India and major cities of Bangladesh.
The EMSC had earlier pegged the quake at 5.8 after giving it a magnitude of 6.0.
On 20 November, an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook Guwahati and other parts of Assam. According to NCS, the earthquake was reported at 1:12 pm and the depth of the quake was 10 km.

The NCS said the epicenter of the quake was 38 km west-southwest of Guwahati in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district.
