Major General Vinod Kumar Nambiar is taking charge as Inspector General, Assam Rifles
Major General Binod Kumar Nambiar took charge as Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) at the Assam Rifles Baghjari in Srikona, Shillong on Saturday. He took over from Maj. Gen. Ranjit Singh, SM, VSM, who proceeded with the posting after successfully completing his tenure.
“Maj Gen Vinod Kumar Nambiar is a highly qualified and competent officer with vast experience in counter insurgency and counter terrorism,” said a statement issued by the Public Relations Cell of Igar’s office.
He has participated in Operation Hifazat, Operation Vijay (Kargil), Operation Raksha and Operation Parakram. He was commissioned in the Kumaon Regiment and then volunteered for the Para SF, which he later served as command.

He holds a Masters Degree from the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington and has completed his Higher Command from the Army War College, Mohawk, Madhya Pradesh. He has also attended the prestigious National Defense Course in the United States.
The general officer had earlier commanded a brigade on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and also served at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi. The statement said the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East) has witnessed many important events during the tenure of Major General Ranjit Singh in parts of Tripura, Mizoram, southern Assam and Manipur.
The General made important changes to efficiently contain the insurgency, smoothly deal with the internal security situation, and carry out civil affairs projects throughout the region.
