Female activists launch agitation over woman’s murder
Imphal: Against the murder of a 45-year-old woman, women activists of the newly formed Joint Action Committee launched an agitation demanding appropriate punishment for the five alleged accused persons responsible for the crime against the woman.
Police said, of the five alleged accused allegedly involved in the crime, two were arrested and are now in police custody pending further necessary action.
A man named Saikhom Binoy (44) thrashed 45-year-old Khundrakpam Shanti, wife of his elder brother Saikhom Kumar, to death at their residence at Khangbok Part 3 Makha Leikai in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Monday night. Police said the deceased has three children and was separated from her husband Saikhom Kumar, who is now living with his second wife in a rented house.
JAC spokesperson, Khundrakpam Sunil, who is also the younger brother of the deceased Shanti, has accused Saikhom Kumar, Saikhom Binoy and their 3 sons of killing their sister and urged the concerned authorities to take necessary legal action against them.
Meanwhile, the police said the body of the deceased was retrieved from the crime scene and has now been kept at the mortuary of the state government-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal for post-mortem. Police said that further investigation is being done.
