Manipur: Three drug smugglers, including a teenager, were arrested with opium
IMPHAL: Three alleged drug peddlers, including a juvenile, were arrested in Manipur on charges of unauthorized possession of opium.
A consignment of opium was seized on Sunday in a joint operation by Manipur Police and Assam Rifles at Habobungfai Lungthar junction under Nongpok Semai police station in Thoubal district of Manipur.
Manipur Police said that 2.5 kg of opium, two mobile handsets and a motorcycle were recovered from them.
Based on information that some smugglers were passing through Haobangphai Lungthar Junction under Nongpoksekmai Police Station via Ukrul from Senapati district, a joint team of Thoubal Police commandos and 16 Assam Rifles personnel overpowered the suspected smugglers at around 11.30 am on Sunday. had got. ,
Manipur Police said the contraband was packed in five polythene bags.
From its preliminary enquiries, the Manipur police learned that the contraband items were being smuggled into Ukhrul from Senapati district.
The arrested men have been identified as Leothang Weifei, 25, and Namkhosung Khongsai, 33, of Sontak Saijang village in Manipur’s Senapati district and Somethang Jimik (18) of Phungsam village in Ukhrul district.
Manipur Police said that the arrested persons along with the seized goods have been handed over to Nongpoksekmai Police Station for further legal proceedings.
