
Mary Kom’s husband will contest Manipur assembly elections
Onkholar said he decided to enter politics after seeing the backwardness of his constituency.
K Onkholar , husband of renowned boxer Mary Kom, announced on Saturday that he would contest the upcoming Manipur assembly elections from the Saikot assembly constituency in Churachandpur district.
At a public meeting held in Samulamlan village, it was officially announced that church leaders, village heads, social workers, women and youth leaders of Saikot constituency were present. A blessing ceremony for Onkholar was also organized at the gathering.
Onkholar said he decided to enter politics after seeing the backwardness of his constituency.
“There is a lot to do. Many developmental activities need to be undertaken for the welfare of the people of my constituency, ”said Onkholar.
He added that the decision to contest the election was taken after thorough discussions with Mary Kom, who is also a sitting Rajya Sabha MP.
Although Ankhola has not yet announced which team he will join, he could also run as an independent candidate. Unconfirmed sources said that Onkhola is keeping an eye on the BJP ticket.
Onkhola will contest against veteran Congress leader TN Hawkip, the incumbent MLA.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur announced that the state assembly elections could be held in the first quarter of 2022.
