Meghalaya second best state under JJM

Meghalaya is the “second best state” in the country in terms of implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), with 2,03,000 households being provided with tap water connections within a period of three years, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said in his Said speech on Republic Day after hoisting the tricolor in Shillong.

“Chongpotgre and Okkapara Songgicham villages, located in Gambegre Block of West Garo Hills, with a total of 260 houses, are a classic example of 100% realization of functional household tap connections under Jal Jeevan Mission. Earlier these villages were connected to the Dilni flowing between the two villages. Were drawing water from the river. The water quality of this river was not suitable for human consumption and people were suffering from various health problems. With the successful provision of water supply through taps, clean drinking water is available to the local communities today , “They said.

“The story of Niyuti N Marak of Asokgre village in Baghmara district is a good example of our government’s effort to supply clean water to the doorstep. His family and the entire village were facing severe water crisis. With the onset of winter, the water source of this village dried up and villagers had to travel more than 1 km to fetch water. With the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, he and his entire village have household tap connections. Now, safe drinking water is available to the people,” the CM said.
