Members of the regional committee examine parts of the Assam-Meghalaya border
With an aim to resolve long-pending border issues, members of the Assam and Meghalaya regional committees inspect parts of Kamrup and West Khasi Hills districts on Friday.
A team of delegation led by Kamrup Regional Committee Chairman and Assam Border Area Development Minister, Atul Bora and Renicton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, West Khasi Hills Regional Committee Chairman and Meghalaya PHE Minister visited the area.
The committees visited the area ahead of the visit of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to Lampi on November 16.
Minister Atul Bora tweeted, “Ahead of the Hon’ble Chief Ministers of Assam & Meghalaya next visit to Lampi on 16th November, we today visited Upper Tarabari, Gemrimura, Dobkdrop and other areas and interacted with villagers and representatives of local organisations. Thoughts and suggestions.”
Sources said the regional committees of the two states were formed after two meetings in August between the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya to discuss a long-term solution to the inter-state boundary issue.
According to reports, MLAs Macmillan Byersat and Kimpha S Marabaniang and senior district and police officials made up the Meghalaya delegation led by Tongkhar. In contrast, Boko MLA Nandita Das, Assam Commissioner and Secretary Border Security and Development Department, GD Tripathi and senior police and district officials made up the Assam delegation.

Last month, as per the decisions taken at the CM-level meeting in Guwahati on August 6, regional committees visited at least seven inter-state border areas in Kamrup and West Khasi Hills districts.
