Missiles hit targets across the country during the G7 rally on Russia
At least one person, including a seven-year-old girl, was killed and six others injured when they destroyed an apartment block in Kiev.
Ukraine says 14 missiles were fired into the Kiev region on Sunday, but the attack extended well beyond the city.
Other areas included the central city of Cherkassy, where one person died, and the northeastern region of Kharkiv.
The strike comes at the height of the war in Ukraine as leaders of the G7 group of the world’s richest nations begin a three-day summit in Bavaria, southern Germany. It is expected to promise more military support to Kiev and impose further sanctions on Moscow.

“We have to stay together,” U.S. President Joe Biden told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz just before the summit in Schloss Elmau.
“[Russian President Vladimir] Putin has been counting on it from the beginning, that somehow NATO will do it, and the G7 will fall apart and… but we haven’t, and we won’t.”
“So, we can’t take this aggression in the form that it is and get away with it,” President Biden said.
The BBC’s diplomatic correspondent James Lendell, who attended the summit, said Western unity over the war had faltered in recent weeks, with some leaders discussing long-term relations with Russia and others emphasizing strong, sustained support for Ukraine.
But the G7 leaders meeting in Bavaria were determined to put those departments to bed, our correspondent added.
In Kiev, a large explosion crater was shot up on a nursery school playground, near a nine-story building that ripped the upper floors. The injured girl’s mother – a Russian national – was also pulled from the wreckage and taken to a hospital, officials said.

They said the girl later underwent surgery and was in a stable condition.
The Ukrainian military said some missiles were fired from Tupolev bombers over the Caspian Sea, about 1,450 kilometers (900 miles) away. And on Saturday, it said, a Russian missile was launched from Tupolev, which was flying over neighboring Belarus.
On Sunday, high-precision weapons attacked Ukrainian army training bases in Chernihiv, north of Kiev, and in the Zhytomir and Lviv regions west of the capital, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The strike was in Lviv’s Staryci district, just 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the border with NATO member Poland.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the attack was an attempt to intimidate Ukraine ahead of this week’s G7 summit.
The last major Russian missile strike in Kiev was on June 5 when a railway repair facility was hit.
After invading Ukraine on February 24, Russia has been isolated internationally with far-reaching sanctions.
After major early setbacks, Russia has made some progress east despite fierce Ukrainian resistance, and on Saturday finally captured Cheverodnetsk, a city now in ruins.

Military analysts say it is now a war of attrition in the industrial eastern Donbass region, although Kiev’s forces have been outgunned by Russian artillery and missiles.
Ukraine has again called on the West to speed up supplies of heavy long-range weapons.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the G7 summit. A Johnson spokeswoman said “they agreed that this was a critical moment for the course of the conflict, and there was an opportunity to turn the tide in the war”.
They agreed to maintain military support for Ukraine, and Mr Johnson gave “licence” to President Putin, insisting that “any attempt to settle the conflict now will only lead to permanent instability”. He said leaders must be honest about the rising costs of war, but that the price of Russia succeeding is “very high.”
