Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles personnel recovered arms, ammunition in Siaha
AIZAWL: A joint team of Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles personnel recovered arms and ammunition in Siaha district of Mizoram.
The arms and ammunition were recovered following an operation by a team of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police personnel based on specific information.
A statement from Assam Rifles said, “On receiving information, Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCPs) were set up at Zongling, Tuipang, Zero Point and Kalachav with representatives from Siaha Police Station (in Mizoram).”
It added: “MVCP intercepted a Maruti Swift vehicle, which led to apprehension and seizure.”
Besides this, at least five persons have also been apprehended in connection with the recovery of arms and ammunition in Siaha district of Mizoram.
The Assam Rifles statement further said, “The recovered articles and five persons have been handed over to Police Station Saiha (in Mizoram) for further legal proceedings.”
It added: “Smuggling of arms and ammunition is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, particularly along the Indo-Myanmar border.”
