
Arunachal Pradesh adds new subspecies of plants to the rich flora;CM Khandu Expresses Elation
The Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has revealed that the plant has been named ‘Arunachalensis’, which is limited to only 35 to 40 persons.
This plant, named Arunachalensis, is a subspecies of a plant called Lycianotas metuoensis (Gesneriaceae) and is limited to only 35 to 40 individuals.

Arunachal Pradesh has added a new plant to its rich list of flora and fauna of the state. Scientists at the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have discovered a new plant sub-species at an altitude of 1,444 meters in Pakke-Kasang district of the state.

According to the Botanical Survey of India, the subspecies of the new plant is morphologically distinct. metuoensis, however, differs in their leaf length and other features.
Significantly, the leaves of Arunachalensis are 2 to 8 cm long, while the L. The leaves of metuoensis are 2.4 to 3.5 cm long.

Also, the new plant has 3–6-flowered flowers and a corolla up to 6 cm longer than the single-flowered flower and 5 cm longer in the corolla L. metuoensis.
Specifically, the Gesneriaceae species, from which l. metuoensis is a related, mostly ‘epiphytic, sometimes ascending or terrestrial evergreen subspecies and distinguishes it from other species by their opposite or 3-lobed leaves and isophilic or anisophilic.
Significantly, this new sub-species is confined to two isolated areas in the Pakke-Kesang district of the state. In an official statement, it was revealed that the first Lysonotus species was collected in Pakke-Kesang district during flowering survey in Arunachal Pradesh in 2020 and 2021.

The statement said, “The collected plant is similar to L. metovensis, but differs in various morphological features due to elongated branches, elongated, densely hairy, elliptical-lanceolate leaves and small stalked flowers of 3 to 6 flowers.”
The BSI deposition further shows that plants of this genus have almost free calyx lobes from the base, cylindrical to funnel-shaped corolla with a bulging upper half, slightly bilabial limbs and two stamens and filaments flattened and curved.
