The Government of Manipur has required all schools in Manipur to strictly determine the appropriate age for Class I pupils in accordance with the age limit set by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to the NEP 2020 order issued by the Director of Education (S) L Nandakumara-
5 basic stage (3 years Anganwadi / pre-school + 2 years in primary school grades 1-2) “is 3 to 8 years
3-early stage (grades 3-5) “is 8 to 11 years

3- Intermediate stage (grades 6-8) “is from 11 to 14 years
4- Secondary stage (Classes 9 to 12, which are Classes 9 and 10 in the first class and Classes 11 and 12 in the second class) ‘is between 14 and 18 years old,
The order also states that “the department has learned that some private schools in Manipur have not allowed children to be admitted to grade I after the age of six, while some schools have not allowed children under the age of six.” This has caused confusion among Manipur’s parents.
It is mentioned that according to the NEP 2020 guidelines, the academic restructuring of school education is 5 + 3 + 3 + 4, which corresponds to the age limits of 3-8, 8-11, 11-14 and 14-18 years.
