One arrested for smuggling liquor in Kakching
Imphal: A 28-year-old man was arrested with Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Distilled Country Liquor (DIC) in a Scorpio vehicle in Manipur’s Kakching district, police said here on Sunday.
Manipur was declared a dry state with the promulgation of the Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991.
The youth, identified as Sagolsem Prem Singh (28), was arrested with illegal bottles of IMFL and DIC in large quantities during a vehicle checking operation at Kakching Khunau Umathel market under Kakching police station area, S Birla Singh, The officer in-charge/Commando (CDO) Kakching PS probing the case said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
The case report states that at around 01:30 pm on Saturday, the teams of CDO-Kakchring led by JE Subhchandra and Waikhong PS led by SI Th Robinson Meitei under the command of Subi S Birla Singh, OC/CDO-Kakching The team intercepted one. A huge consignment of illegal liquor has been recovered during checking in Kaking Khunau Umathel market.
The illicit liquor was being transported by Sagolsem Prem Singh (28), a resident of Langathel Mamang Lekai in the same district, in a Scorpio vehicle with registration number MN01G0802.
The seized consignment includes 500 bottles of DIC liquor, 12 IFML and 24 cans of beer.
The arrested person and the seized goods have been handed over to the Excise Department for necessary legal action, the statement said.
