Over 500 road accidents reported in Assam during during Puja celebrations
Kamrup Metro reported 8 accidents in the last 5 days of Durga Puja celebrations.
GUWAHATI: Despite rules to protect citizens and prevent the spread of the virus, Assam reported 541 accidents, state emergency services reported.
There were 49 accidents in Kamrup Rural, followed by 48 in Golaghat district. 32-32 accidents were registered in both Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts.

Most of the accidents—137—were recorded on October 14, the day Navami is celebrated. The figures for accidents in emergency services between October 11 and 15 are given below.

“These are the cases that our emergency services cater to across Assam,” Dhurjyoti Prasad, spokesperson for 108 Emergency Response Service, told Eastmojo.

When asked whether he has seen an increase in the number of reported cases as compared to last year or other days, the official said, “Last year there was no Durga Puja celebrations, so no major accidents took place on normal days. In the U.S., we meet around 70 to 80 accidents a day, but these days it has gone up to a hundred in a few days.”
