Parkinson’s disease The symptoms of this disease should not be ignored
World Parkinson’s Day is observed on 11 April
Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that causes difficulty in movement, stiffness and walking, balance and coordination.
According to a report by Parkinson’s Disease Statistics, an estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease.

While age is a clear risk factor for the disease, men are more likely to have this health complication than women.
World Parkinson’s Day is observed on 11 April to create awareness about the health condition and better understand the disease.
What causes Parkinson’s disease?
When nerve cells in the basal ganglia of the brain that control movement become impaired, a person develops Parkinson’s condition. Usually these nerve cells coordinate movement in the body through a brain chemical called dopamine.
When these nerve cells degenerate or die, the secretion of dopamine slows down, resulting in the patient not being able to walk, balance, and coordinate other movements that are essential to humans.
What are the main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease?
tremors in the arms, hands, legs, jaw, or head
In this, people also get tremors in the hands, arms, jaw and head. This tremor is like an involuntary rhythmic vibration or movement in the body. Tremors or tremors may also be felt in the chin, lips, face, and legs.

While experts say this is the first symptom of the condition, it persists in about 80% of patients. These setbacks can be frustrating, but they are not disabling in nature.
stiffness of limbs
Stiffness or stiffness in the limbs is often seen as a symptom of Parkinson’s disease. According to the Parkinson’s Foundation: “Stiffness, while rarely the main symptom in early Parkinson’s, is experienced as stiffness of the hands or feet that occurs as a result of normal aging or arthritis.
Some people call this a “tightness” in their limbs. Stiffness can occur on one or both sides of the body and contribute to reduced range of motion. This can lead to aches or pains in the affected muscles or joints.”
slow movement
As the nerve cells responsible, which control movement in the body, die, leading to Parkinson’s disease, a person’s movements slow down. This condition is called bradykinesia. It is one of the major symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Bradykinesia can have many causes, but it is mostly associated with Parkinson’s disease.
loss of balance and coordination
During the onset of the disease, the patient often falls down. Due to impaired balance and coordination, the patient loses balance and falls down. With an increase in the risk of falling, the risk of disability due to fall also increases.
It can have harmful effects on the person. According to one study, frequent falls are caused by postural instability, which is not reversible with dopaminergic therapy.

Loss of smell, trouble sleeping, fainting or humping, dizziness or fainting, low voice are some other symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
Many experts have even linked short handwriting to Parkinson’s disease. When a person gets this disease, it becomes difficult for the person to write and there may be a change in the way the person writes. That person may try to write clumsily and fit more words into one page.
The face of people suffering from Parkinson’s disease is always covered with sadness, even if they are happy from within.
Constipation is also associated with illness.

What Are the Risk Factors?
Although age is certainly the biggest risk factor, Parkinson’s disease is more often seen in men. According to a report, men are 1.5 times more likely to get this disease than women. The typical age of onset of Parkinson’s disease is 60 years.
If there is a family history of Parkinson’s disease, it may also be experienced at later ages. “About 10 to 20 percent of Parkinson’s disease cases are linked to a genetic cause,” says Ted Dawson, PhD, director of the Institute for Cell Engineering at Johns Hopkins.
Environment also plays an important role in this. Health experts have linked the use of pesticides, herbicides, detergents and heavy metals to the occurrence of Parkinson’s disease.
