In the village of Tarethang in East Sikkim, a man was beaten by a black bear from the Himalayas on Sunday morning.

Gangtok: Human-animal clashes continue in Sikkim. A few days after a bear was spotted at the Sikkim palace in Gangtok, a Himalayan black bear hit a man in the village of Tarethang in East Sikkim on Sunday morning.

The victim was first taken to Pakyong Primary Health Center and later transferred to Central Referral Hospital.

The wildlife team from the Pangolakha Wildlife Sanctuary and the Wildlife Regional Division of Pakyong combed the area where the incident took place.

Sikkim East District Wildlife DFO Dechen Lachungpa said, “We have deployed a team for night scrubbing in the area. The people have been requested to cooperate with the forest officials and not to enter the forest at night. ”

The DFO added that efforts are being made to ensure public safety. “Forest teams are active and they always give their best in human-animal conflicts, especially when it involves Himalayan black bears or any animal that is dangerous to humans.”
