Rhino Found Bloody In Assam After Suspected Illegal Hunters Cut Off Horn
The Wildlife and forest Department suspects it was a case of poaching where poachers calmed the animal before grazing it.
In the Assam National Park, a male rhino bleeds from its nose after biting its horn and it roams here and there. Officials provided this information today.

The Forest and Wildlife Department suspects it was a case of poaching where poachers calmed the animal before grazing it.
Officials said that the injured rhino had been given medication by a veterinarian and no insects had formed on the wound.
“The condition of the rhino is now stable and it is allowed to live in the forest under the supervision of a doctor,” the official said.

This is the second case of rhinos in Assam this year and the first of its kind in the People’s National Park since 2017.
Pradipta Barua, Divisional Forest Officer, Mangaldoi Division said, “Once we thought it was a case of internal fighting, but when monitored more closely, it turned out to be a case of poaching and its horns had been cut off. The rhino may have been seduced.”

The population of one -horned rhinos in the Assam National Park has increased by 24 in the past four years, bringing the total to 125, officials said.
The last rhinoceros population assessment was conducted in 2018.
