Russia attacked many cities, 20 bodies found near Kyiv

The head of the Poltava region said Russian missiles damaged infrastructure and residential buildings in two cities in central Ukraine early on Saturday. “Poltava. A missile hit one of the infrastructure overnight,” wrote Dmitry Lunin in an online post. “Kremenchuk. There were several attacks on the city in the morning.”

Lunin later said that at least four missiles hit two infrastructure objects in Poltava, while according to preliminary information, three enemy aircraft attacked Kremenchuk’s industrial facilities.

The city of Poltava is the capital of the Poltava region, east of Kyiv, and one of the major cities of the Kremenchuk region. Lunin said there was no immediate information about possible casualties. Reuters could not immediately confirm the report.

The head of the region, Valentin Reznichenko, said in an online post that in the Dnipro region of southwestern Ukraine, missiles struck an infrastructure facility, injuring two people and causing significant damage.

He said a petrol station in the city of Krivi Rih was shelled, which started the fire.

20 bodies found in a city street near Kyiv

The bodies of at least 20 people in civilian clothes were found lying in a single street on Saturday after Ukrainian forces took over the town of Buka near Kyiv from Russian troops, AFP reporters said.

One of the men’s bodies was tied with his hands, and the corpses were scattered several hundred meters (yards) from a residential road in a suburban town to the northwest of the capital. The cause of death was not immediately clear, although at least one person had a major head wound.

As Russian forces retreat from Ukraine’s capital region, the retreating troops create “devastating” conditions for civilians, leaving mines around homes, abandoned equipment and “even the bodies of those killed”. President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross was renewing efforts to evacuate civilians in a convoy from the besieged Mariupol port on Saturday as Russian forces looked to regroup for fresh strikes in southeast Ukraine. The war killed thousands, uprooted a quarter of Ukraine’s population, and devastated many cities.
